Freerunning enthusiasts flock to new parkour park in Madrid

The new facility, located in the neighbouring city of Getafe, has been designed by Freemove in collaboration with Axel Dupre, one of the leading figures of Parkour generation. Axel also hosts a series of classes to initiate the public to the art of freerunning. These sessions cater for users of all levels and children and adults alike can learn key parkour movements under the supervision of four coaches.

“The classes allow each and every one to discover their own potential and develop them in a progressive way”, says Axel. Parkour is a non-competitive discipline that focuses on increasing body awareness and self-knowledge. It is also a highly social activity and fellow practitioners feel they are part of a community. “There is a real sense of belonging within the group and people value mutual support and respect.”

About 100 young people have attended the training sessions so far, with many more expected, and the new parkour facility is an exciting place for traceurs and spectators to socialise.  The Getafe council is very happy that local youth now have a dedicated area to practise parkour safely.

This project has been made possible by the support of Getafe council and funds from the European Union.
